25th June 2015 – Using Touchscreen Technology for Language Learning

Speaker: Ms Veronica Montanaro

Veronica Montanaro is a Speech and Language Pathologist with a special interest in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). Ms Montanaro read a M.Sc in Language & Communication Impairment in Children (LACIC) at the University of Sheffield. Ms Montanaro is also a visiting assisting lecturer at the University of Malta and the outreach coordinator for a nationwide online safety campaign.

Ms Montanaro presented a talk which discussed the role that touch screen technology has as scaffolds for language learning and literacy practice. It also discussed the important considerations that need to be taken when selecting applications, as well as the importance of providing a balance between child-initiated and adult-led activities.
