SLT Day 2016 – Understanding Dyspraxia
“Understanding Dyspraxia” was the theme chosen for this year’s Speech and Language Therapy Day. Dyspraxia is a form of coordination disorder. It is a common disorder affecting fine and/or gross motor coordination in children and adults. It may also affect speech, the social skills as well as emotional aspect. Individuals with Dyspraxia may vary in how their difficulties present depending on its severity. These challenges may change over time depending on environmental demands and life experiences. A practical talk was delivered by Prof. Helen Grech, during which, different tips on how one can detect Dyspraxia were given. Ms Estelle Farrugia, Speech Language Pathologist, discussed how and which applications can be used when dealing and planning therapy for this developmental coordination disorder.
